San Jose Police Department Takes a Lesson from HOPE

Chris Gianola and Nicole LeBouef, HOPE clients, have been working with the San Jose Police Department for the past several years as teachers to the officers during the department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. Chris and Nicole use role playing and presentations to illustrate for the officers the best ways to interact with people who have developmental disabilities. The officers have an opportunity to see in real terms how such an interaction might take place. Chris and Nicole get to tell the officers how they and other HOPE clients feel about public safety, how they want to be treated, and what is important to them in any situation involving law enforcement. Congratulations to Chris and Nicole — they’ve been awarded official “CIT” pins for their support of the program!
