Hollister Clients’ Festive Float Wins First Place
Congratulations to HOPE Services’ clients and staff in Hollister for winning first place in the San Benito County Horse Show Parade on June 21. Our clients and staff spent numerous hours, with the help of several volunteers, building a float to enter in the parade. The parade officially opened the 74th Annual San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo. The parade had 74 entries including floats, equestrians, color guards, and other attractions.
HOPE clients brought up the idea of entering a float as a community service project in the parade during a current event class offered by the Gavilan Community College staff. Local residents donated a trailer for the base of the float and Ace Hardware in Hollister donated supplies for the project. Local residents David Rice, Chris Dixon and John Dixon, experienced in construction work, volunteered numerous hours building the float. Joy Rice, South Valley District Coordinator, designed the float with an “Old Wild West” theme and included many different aspects that HOPE has to offer in our Work Activity Program such as labeling, assembly, shrink-wrap, and packaging. The clients in Hollister worked hard to decorate the float. Congratulations for taking first place in the parade!
